The extreme poverty in Cambodia results in suffering, lack of education, and the break up of families. One of the most horrific consequences of extreme poverty is when parents can't take care of all of their children, and resort to selling one child to pay for food for the others. In an act of desperation, parents convince themselves their young child will work in restaurant, factory, or coffee house - but the reality (and most likely scenario) is that they end up being trafficked to brothels that focus on selling children to tourists for sex. Girls as young as five or six are offered, and often remain in captivity for many years.
To all of us here at SSF, this is our most pressing issue and we have decided to focus on three different phases to aid this problem.
1. The Child - US$250 - your contribution will provide school uniforms and supplies, and school lunch for a year.
2. The Family - US$1,000.00 - will sponsor an entire family for one year. We will create a job for them, provide all necessary supplies, and offer support for the family (money and food) while they are getting their business going.
3. The Community - Any amount! Every little bit helps, and all other donations (unless otherwise specified) will go to building an irrigation system for the community, and for the development of the safe house.
